What does the digital marketing world look like from Lancaster, PA? How about the world of marketing and the economy? Well, let’s start with the view out my window. I see a street shaded by sycamore trees. I see neighbors whose kids I know. I see a sidewalk that is my children’s route to school. Of course I’m looking at the web through the same browser you are, wherever you are. And I’m probably looking at some of the same websites. But the view out my window probably looks different than yours. And so that’s part of the perspective I bring.
My work also shades my perspective. I left Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising to move to Lancaster, Pennsylvania for a different quality of life. I founded a digital marketing agency back when the web was young. And I’ve also worked for a manufacturing company as a brand manager, and at a software company as a Director of Sales and Marketing. Now I’m back at another digital marketing agency, and I’m happy to be there.
The marketing world has changed dramatically since I started. Media planning (where I started) changed dramatically with cable TV. But that was nothing compared with the changes brought by the Internet. Now much of what used to be worth knowing about marketing online is getting obsolete- we’re into Internet Version 2.0. So I’m starting the next phase of my education.
The business and marketing world continues to fascinate me. It is ever changing. As I observe big changes and reflect on what I already know, and try to sort out what’s valid and what’s no longer valid, I enjoy sharing my thoughts. So here’s my blog. By the way, New Street runs by my house. Enjoy.
